PMBi lends Baby Blake a helping hand with golf day
Three-year-old Blake Liam suffers from three diseases they are aware of, and possibly a couple more that are still unconfirmed.
PMBi Attorneys held their first annual golf day at Ruimsig Country Club on Thursday, 11 October in aid of Baby Blake Liam.
Baby Blake was born on 6 April 2015 and was welcomed into the world fast asleep with his eyes closed, and ever since it’s been hurdle after hurdle for him and his family. Baby Blake has thus far been diagnosed with hypotonic cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and hepatosplenomegaly. He also suffers from non-epileptic seizures and possibly a glycogen storage disease, both of which are still being investigated.

For PMBi directors Peter Breedt and Rudolph Pretorius, choosing Blake as the beneficiary of their golf day came down to one factor: “We want the money raised to go to an individual where it could possibly go a little further than if we were to donate to an organisation,” said Rudolph. “As much as we understand it would still make a difference at an organisation or group, we felt that the money would seriously help someone like Blake, who is being raised by a single mom,” Peter explained further.
The golf day’s field featured retired South African sports heroes such as former rugby centre Danie Gerber, as well as legendary boxer Brian Mitchell. The competition followed a Betterball Stableford format for the first nine holes, and a combined Stableford for the second nine holes.

There were also a couple of extra ways of raising money for Blake on the day, such as a ‘beat the pro’ competition on the Par 3 fifth hole, where participants could enter at a cost of R50 to see if they could get their tee-shot nearer to the than Lynette Fourie. There was also an auction at the gala evening, the funds from which were also donated to Blake, along with all of the money raised on the day.
