Two club contracts signed by Transition Football stars

In the space of 10-and-a-half months, the latest addition to Transition Football, its Honeydew base, has pulled off a few special achievements with its players.

Having originally launched in Randburg last year, the academy made the transition to Honeydew in December in the hope of expanding its operations to welcome a wider variety of footballers. When Transition, which welcomes players from as young as six years old right up to 20 years old, started out in December, it had a tough task at hand. With its U/13 and U/15 sides taking part in the Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) league for the first time, there was a fair amount of expectation on their shoulders.

The teams lived up to the expectations however, as they both won the league without losing a game. In addition, the U/13 side won the Rand Central Cup while the U/15s were knocked out in the semi-finals. The academy strives for excellence, and its founder and coach, Claudio Lorenzani, pushes his players until he receives it from them. “We don’t believe in mollycoddling our players, we want the best that they can offer,” said Claudio, who has played for English club Harlow Town Football Club in the seventh tier of England’s football league system.

“In England they drill the children because they know what they’re capable of, and we hope to imitate that here,” he added. This mindset seems to have paid off for two players from the Honeydew base who have signed contracts with clubs, one overseas and one locally.

Winger Jermaine Oliphant was swooped up by ABC Motsepe League (South Africa’s third division) side Rainham Sporting Football Club, while goalkeeper Kyle Stuart has been signed by Haverford West Athletic Football Club, which plays in the second division of Wales’ football league system.
