Pikitup contracts under investigation

Council is conducting an investigation into allegations of misconduct.

The MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, councillor Ntombi Khumalo, has reassured residents that the multi-party government is doing all it can to ensure that allegations of misconduct at Pikitup are addressed and services are not interrupted.

According to Khumalo, this decision was taken in an effort to ensure consistent and reliable service delivery to residents.

The City’s leadership took this step after refuse removal services were disrupted two weeks ago as a result of inadequately managed contracts.

The contracts relating to Pikitup’s non-specialised, specialised and red fleets are now the subject of investigation.

“Should the investigation confirm the allegations of misconduct, the City will not hesitate to take appropriate action,” Khumalo said.

She also mentioned that as an interim measure, the City has appointed officials to ensure the tenders are finalised as a matter of urgency and advertised speedily.

“The residents of Joburg can rest assured that the multi-party government is doing all it can to ensure that allegations of misconduct are addressed and services are not interrupted. This is part of our commitment to providing a professional and efficient service to the residents of Joburg in the most cost-effective and consistent manner,” Khumalo added.
