Roodepoort welcomes Iron Fist Boxing Club
'I would love to train boxers to become champions'
Iron Fist Boxing Club has only been operating for the past seven months, and can already boast with quite a few achievements.James Britz, 33, the Club’s coach, explained that they are registered under the Johannesburg Amateur Boxing Organisation (Jabo) and said three of his seven boxers are registered. “We are in the process of preparing our other four boxers for their grading, when they will be assessed by the head coach of Jabo, to ensure they are ready to be registered,” he said.
He added that their highest graded boxer is the 12-year-old Kyle Britz, and said, “He has already had 21 fights and will be ready to compete at the school-boy championships next year. Our youngest boxer, seven-year-old Tristan Britz, has already had four fights, and, at this year’s Arnold Classic, his fight was awarded the Bout of the Day.”

James, who was a professional boxer, decide to start coaching, after an injury ended his career. He said, “I turned professional in 2015, and had a few fights, but, while I was preparing for my last fight, I sustained an injury that forced me to hang up my gloves. That is when I decided to become a coach and impart my knowledge and love for the sport to the younger generation.
“The boxers train every Monday and Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm and Fridays from 4.30pm to 6pm, and everyone from the age of six years and up, is welcome to join.

James concluded by saying, “My aim for the club is to teach each boxer about discipline, hard work and how to set goals. I believe that there is no limit to somebody’s talent, and with the right leadership and hard work, anything can be achieved.
I also want to train champions, and want to help grow the sport in our country by being a friend to my boxers and a role model – someone they can look up to and ask advice from.”
James can be contacted on 084 963 0822.
