City Power disconnects illegal connections

City Power has heeded the call from Zandspruit residents who are currently staging a huge protest against illegal connections in the area.

According to a City Power tweet, the power utility, alongside the Johannesburg Metro Police and the Police, are conducting an emergency operation to remove illegal connections in the informal settlement.

Amidst the operation, the utility’s contractor cut and removed some of the exposed wires that had been connected to City Power’s supply line, thus posing danger to citizens, especially children. They also recovered an aerial bundle conductor suspected to be stolen from the streets lights which was used to illegally connect power.

Regardless of these attempts, residents continue to wreak havoc as they flood numerous roads with burning tyres and debris.

The protest is being closely monitored by local authorities.
