West Rand Toastmasters explore Artificial Intelligence excellently
Meeting was enjoyed by all
With the loud bang of the gavel on the lectern, meeting number 453 of the West Rand Toastmasters was declared open.
The Club’s President, Esther Dreyer, welcomed everyone at the meeting, and one of the new members, Jacky Motaung, gave the Toast to South Africa.
Lynette Harris was the first speaker of the evening. She spoke about the evening’s theme, which was Artificial Intelligence. The word for the evening was ‘excel’, something which all members definitely did in their various roles and speeches.
Alwyn van Wyngaarden took on the role of Joke Master, and had everyone in stitches. Sticking with funny, two members – Glen Campbell and Johannes Gribb – had to battle it out for the honour of representing the West Rand in the upcoming Humorous Contest. Glen walked away with the spoils.
Esther gave a very informative speech about Toastmasters, and focused on how the organisation can help to build up one’s confidence and assist in achieving your life goals.
The Table Topics Master for the evening – Claude Joshua – ensured everyone was kept on their toes with the various themes for the impromptu speeches, a category that was won by one of the evening’s guests, André Manders.
Other winners for the evening was Kynetee Harris (Best Contributor) and Alwyn van Wyngaarden (Best Evaluator).
The next meeting, which will be the Humorous Area S2 Contest, will take place on 18 October at the Discovery Bowling Club, Lucas Avenue, Discovery. It will start at 6.30pm.
