DA visit to Roodepoort Sassa offices postponed
DA Shadow Minister of Social Development, Bridget Masango, will be paying Sassa's Roodepoort offices a visit amid several complaints about the processing of grant applications.

An oversight inspection of Roodepoort’s Sassa offices that was initially scheduled for Friday, 28 September, has been postponed to a later date, due to Bathabile Dlamini’s ongoing case regarding the Sassa saga. Bridget Masango, DA Shadow Minister of Social Development, who was to conduct the inspection, was required to be present at the hearing in Cape Town.
According to a media release from the Democratic Alliance (DA), the oversight inspection will take place following reports that the Sassa office cannot process new applications for social grants because of problems with its biometric systems. Masango will be accompanied by Team One SA Spokesperson on Basic Services, Makashule Gana.

The release states further that because “beneficiaries were reportedly turned away at the branch, Masango and Gana will engage with grant recipients on their challenges regarding this application process”.
The statement continued to take shots at the failure to process grants, saying that the DA is “concerned that the nationwide backlog in the capturing of data could reach crisis levels by the end of this month”. They also stated that it “is a direct consequence of Bathabile Dlamini’s legacy at the Department of Social Development”.
