During my times in high school, 40 days used to be a super fun and exciting activity which was ‘acceptable’ because nobody got hurt by it.
We used to look forward to the activity as this was a fun way for our matriculants to say goodbye to the juniors. During our times, water balloons were the only object used to pelt each other around school, unlike faeces which is used in today’s culture.
The recent ‘40 days’ at Allen Glen High School really destroyed such a beautiful culture as learners were video-taped fighting and accidentally being run over by a car.
Luckily no serious injuries were reported, but this could have been worse. One also wonders what will happen in the next couple of years, as it seems as if the educators at the school are relaxed about this activity.
The Education Department’s intervention is needed to stop this activity at the school.
