How to report ‘naughty’ cops

Although most Metro Police officers are dedicated and serve the public as they should, there are always the few rotten apples who tarnish the Metro Police’s reputation by being negligent or lazy, or because of corruption such as taking bribes (aka “buy me a cool drink, I am thirsty”).

But a uniform does not excuse them from the law or carrying out their duties as civil servants. Superintendent of and spokesperson for the Johannesburg Metro Police, Wayne Minnaar, has issued the following statement to the public:
“Members of the public are reminded that if you are of the opinion that you are unfairly treated by any Metro Officer, you are please to call the anti-corruption hotline on 0800 203712, or Director Sam Sethagu on 082 411 2430. But if any Metro Police member performed his or her duty well and went beyond the call of duty, then commend that officer onwaynem@joburg.org.za“.
