The future is promising for the Economic Development Department as they have recently welcomed two new directors. The MMC for Economic Development, councillor Leah Knott, is delighted to welcome the new Director of Trade and Investment Promotions (Letumile Sebolai) and Director of Sustainable Employment Facilitation (Lulama Ndlovu) who assumed their roles in the first week of September.
Sebolai takes on a crucial role in the Trade and Investment Department which is responsible for attracting and facilitating internal and external investment in Joburg.
She holds a BCom Degree from the University of Pretoria and a Master’s in Business Administration completed at the Gordon Institute of Business Science and has also concluded numerous Executive Development Programmes. She has worked on inclusive industrial development within high impact investment projects, ICT and high technology industries.
“She brings with her a wealth of experience as an industrial economist as well as in-depth knowledge of economic research and policy development,” said Knott.
Ndlovu assumes the role of Director for Sustainable Employment Facilitation. She has worked for numerous metropolitan municipalities in various divisions ranging from Community and Social Development to Economic Development. She holds a BA (Social Work) Degree with majors in Social Work and Psychology and completed her Master’s Degree in Development Studies at the University of Fort Hare. “Her expertise within Expanded Public Works Programmes (EPWP) will be highly beneficial to the empowerment of the most vulnerable members of our society at a time when we are enhancing and realigning EPWP policies towards a more efficient strategy,” said Knott.
“With these two dynamic professionals at the forefront of our Department’s most critical units, we can assure both residents and the business community of a City that will develop and implement policies that work,” she added.
