Hirsch’s hosts domestic workshop in Heritage Month spirit

A number of ladies attended September's domestic workers workshop at Hirsch's Strubens Valley with the Heritage Month theme in mind.

Hirsch’s Struben’s Valley recently held their monthly domestic workshop, with close to 20 ladies in attendance in celebration of Heritage Month.

Jeanette Lings, the guest speaker and a Margaret Hirsch Women in Business Finalist, addressed the ladies in attendance about the power of the mind and how to stay positive daily. She explained to the ladies that her heritage stems from a home where her grandmother and mother’s first jobs were as domestic workers.

In their house they had to start doing chores with excellence and her grandmother made sure that she was taught to give her all, irrespective f what job she had to do. She always did everything to the best of her ability as her grandmother would not be satisfied with a job that was done half-heartedly, according to Jeanette.

“Life happens and that is great but even in the midst of a storm you can be positive. Look at challenges as stepping stones and avoid negativity,” said Hirsch’s Strubens Valley public relations officer, Dorette Nel.

Jeanette also stated that being a domestic worker is a career that one chooses, so when you work make sure you give it your best and let your hard work do the talking. She also said that domestic workers should change the stigma and let people realise that it is a career to follow.

The Domestic Worker of the Month title was also awarded on the day, to Hellen Mlilo and the lucky winner of the Bosch Apron and Oven Gloves was Sizakele Nkwanyana.
