Just when I thought it is impossible to be more disgusted with the human race, I received a nasty blow that shocked me to the core.
I was off sick last week and was still feeling a little fragile and emotional when I arrived back at the office on Monday. There was so much to catch up on, but then the bomb exploded.
A 10-year-old girl was dropped off by her father to visit her mother for the weekend. As the girl tried to cross the road, she was knocked over by a taxi. The occupants of the taxi offered to take the girl to the hospital and since the mother was not on the scene, the bystanders agreed.
Instead of taking the girl to hospital, she was allegedly raped, killed and dumped in a veld. That small, bruised body, broken from being hit by a taxi, was further mutilated and humiliated by being raped and killed. Later the same day her body ended up in a hospital mortuary. Read the details in our front-page story.
This makes me sick to my stomach. The human race has become despicable. Actually, there are no words to describe the heinousness of their actions. I know I am generalising because there are really kind, caring and compassionate people on this Earth and in this community, but at the same time, they seem to be a dying breed.
When you hear and read about the number of senseless crimes and the brutality of the murders of humans and animals alike, I cannot help but think that our police force is completely out of its depth. They don’t know how to stop this. The more worrying aspect is that people do not fear the police anymore. Maybe it’s because many of them can be bribed and intimidated so easily. Again I am generalising, because we really have some honest to goodness cops out there, who bust their gut to solved crimes and get a successful conviction. But for the most part we, the citizens, are left to our own devices.
Maybe we should start petitions to have the death penalty brought back?
What are your thoughts?
Until next week, take care of one another.
