Third agers visit Fora’s book paradise

Nestled in the heart of Krugersdorp North might be one of this town's hidden gems.

Members of the University of the 3rd Age’s (U3A) book club recently traveled to Fourth Street to visit a bookstore that will make any book lover’s heart melt.

But what makes this book store even more special is the fact that it is the Friends of Rescued Animals’ (Fora) bookshop and it is a wall-to-wall book-covered heaven to get lost in.

Babatjie the dog is also there to assist in the bookshop.

The U3A is a learning co-operative for ‘third agers’. This term was coined to refer to what South Africans tend to call senior citizens or older people from all walks of life who are no longer in full-time employment.

During the members’ visit, they were welcomed by employees Julie Wasserman and Pat Palmer, and Babatjie, the dog. The employees arranged some sparkling wine, snacks and great conversations for the visitors.

The Fora bookshop aids the animal shelter through the sale of its books, and is a place where you can get exceptionally good quality books at ridiculous prices.

There is a variety of books for every type of reader, from the fiction reader, to the reader who prefers biographies. There is even a comprehensive children’s section with classics for readers young and old.

The bookshop also hosts regular book evenings which are open to the public to attend. For more information about the bookshop and its book evenings, contact Julie on 076 771 5480.
