Religious zealots still raising hell in valley

The continued activities of quasi-religious groups at the waterfall in Dakota Avenue Park and Bert Close Park, are still making residents see red.

The Record recently reported that fed-up residents claimed that these disturbing practices have been “carrying on for years, but have intensified in the past six months”. According to residents, who wish to remain anonymous out of fear, there have even been threats of violence such as someone pulling a knife on a jogger.

Other uncouth activities include screaming, nudity, the performing of circumcisions, alleged firing of gun shots, sexual liaisons, drumming, chanting, making fires (it is believed that one of these recently led to a serious fire in Kloofendal Nature Reserve) and littering.

The residents have approached the police and Metro Police on numerous occasions, but to no avail. Although the Metro Police have attended to their complaints on occasion, they did it “halfheartedly”, said one resident.

City Parks and Zoo have attended to their other complaints such as to remove non-indigenous vegetation, but have yet to address the complaints regarding the vagrants.

The Record is in the process of obtaining comment from all the role players.
