This past Tuesday (11 September) Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, released the annual crime statistics for 2017/ 2018.

In his own words he called South Africa a “war zone” with 59 murders a day. Here is what the statistics had to say about the following crimes. The 30 worst police precincts were named, with number one being the worst. The Record has compared the Honeydew, Florida, Muldersdrift and Roodepoort Police Stations.

Commercial crime

Only Honeydew Police Station featured at number 16. Cases dropped from 638 in 2017 to 596 in 2018. Johannesburg Central came in at number one with 1 215 cases reported in the previous financial year, compared to 1 132 in 2018.

Both Honeydew and Roodepoort featured at number 18 and 19 respectively. Honeydew went from 459 to 418 cases and Roodepoort from 517 to 416 cases. Durban Central was the worst, going from 1 309 cases to 1 129 cases.
