Don’t miss us at this weekend’s bird fair

Come pay the Roodepoort Northsider a visit at this weekend's African Bird Fair.

If you’ve ever had any questions for the team behind the Roodepoort Northsider, you can pay us a visit at our stall at the African Bird Fair on Saturday, 8 September, and ask away.

And, if you haven’t had the chance to enter our Name the Chick competition yet, you’re in luck, as we will also be handing out and collecting entry forms for the competition. All you have to do is enter your name suggestion for the chick, and the meaning behind it, plus your details on the form, and give it back to us.

We won’t be alone however, as a variety of exhibitors will be showcasing all things birding, such as binoculars and spotting scopes, bird books, birding apps, bird feeders, wildlife art and birding holiday destinations. Throughout the weekend there will be plenty of items to take part in, including guided bird walks, guided creepy-crawly walks, photography workshops by well-known photographer Robbie Aspeling titled ‘Bird Photography and the Mirrorless Revolution’ (booking is essential), fascinating presentations by experts such as Faansie Peacock and Jonathan Leeming, and there will also be lots of fun activities for the kids.

Costs to enter the fair will simply be the standard gate fee of R50 (adults) and R15 (children) for the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden. However, if you wish to take part in any of the guided walks, you will need to purchase a black eagle pin for only R25, giving you access to whatever is on offer, except for the photography workshops. The photography workshops will in turn cost R150 in addition to the Garden’s gate fee.

For more information on the workshops or to make your booking, contact Nikki McCartney on 083 636 1060 or via email to nikki.mccartney@birdlife.org.za.

Gates open at 8am and close at 5pm on both daysy. For more information on the fair itself, visit Bird Life South Africa’s website at https://www.birdlife.org.za/events/bird-fair or contact Emma Askes at emma.askes@birdlife.org.za.
