Drug manufacturers bust on plot

Karen explained what police came across at the property that led to the arrests of two foreign nationals and one South African citizen.

Three suspects were thrown behind bars after they were arrested on 26 August for running a narcotics laboratory with an estimated value of R2,5 million on a plot in Muldersdrift.

The officers from the West Rand Flying Squad and Roodepoort K9 followed up on information about the drug lab, and came across one of the biggest narcotics laboratories in Muldersdrift, according to Karen du Plessis, the spokesperson for the unit.

Lab equipment also discovered in one of the houses.

She described what the police discovered at the property that lead to the arrests of two foreign nationals and one South African citizen. “One house on the premises was used for making CAT and the other two houses on the property were used for manufacturing Crystal Meth. The main house supplied the power for all the laboratories.”

Du Plessis added, “It is clear that the laboratories had been operating for a long time, as they were well-established”.

She mentioned that the Hawks also worked on the crime scene and the suspects eventually appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 28 August, facing charges of manufacturing of narcotics.

“This was a very successful operation, and drugs [destined] for the streets are now removed from the hands of criminals,” she concluded.
