Panorama U/17s remain club’s highest-placed side
It was a difficult day against Jacaranda Callies for Panorama, but they managed to walk away with two draws, one win, and one loss.
Panorama Football Club’s U/17 side remains the club’s top-placed side in this year’s Gauteng Development League, and now lies in fourth place, only nine points behind log leaders, Orlando Pirates.
All of Panorama’s academy sides taking part in the GDL took on Jacaranda Callies on Saturday, 18 August, with the U/17s looking to retain their spot in the top four, while the U/19s looked to lift themselves off the foot of the table.
The U/13s were the first side to take on Callies at Panorama Football Club, and they got the day off to a great start by getting Pano’s only win of the day, winning a tight game 3–2. This saw Panorama overtake Callies to climb one place into 11th on the log, only one point behind School of Excellence which stands on 24 points for the season so far.

Unfortunately for Pano, the U/15s weren’t able to repeat the U/13 side’s success, and went down 3–1 to Callies. Despite the loss, they stayed in 11th place, level on points with, but inferior on goal difference to Wits Junior.
Next was Panorama’s most successful side thus far this season, the U/17s, who went into the game hoping to retain their place in the top four. Off the back of a strong 6–1 win over Fairfield Sports Academy, they faced stern opposition this time round, and were held to a frustrating 1–1 draw by Callies. Despite only getting one point from the match, they managed to stay in fourth place.
They are now nine points off the U/17 defending champions, Orlando Pirates, and three points behind third-placed Supersport United with a game in hand over Matsatsantsa. The draw also means that the U/17s are undefeated in six straight games, last losing 4–2 to Highlands Park on Saturday, 9 June.
Finally came the U/19 side, which has been languishing at the bottom of the table for the majority of the season. Hoping to lift themselves from the foot of the table, they faced tough opposition in Callies who were one spot shy of the top half of the table.
The U/19s managed to remain resilient however, and held Callies to a 1–1 draw at home. The draw and point they gained from the encounter was unable to lift them from 20th place however, as they remain rooted to the foot of the table.
