With housebreakings on the increase, the Florida Police have issued the following safety tips for homeowners:
· Be vigilant and observant of your surroundings at all times.
· Ensure that all doors and gates are locked at all times and that the keys cannot be reached easily.
· Security gates with sturdy locks in front of each outer door, plus burglar proofing covering all windows, are recommended.
· An alarm system, preferably connected to an armed response company, can act as an effective deterrent.
· Alarm switches/ panic buttons should preferably be installed in various rooms of the house.
· Security lights on the outside improve the physical protection of a house.
· If you leave your residence, arrange with someone to assist you in securing your home.
· Ensure that you have a good relationship with your neighbours so that you will be in a good position to support and help each other.
