Residents are warned about bogus City Power officials

Residents are urged to be vigilant and to verify the authenticity of RFQs

Be on the lookout for men posing as officials from City Power and requesting to enter your property. Recently a white Nissan 1400 bakkie has been seen doing rounds in the neighbourhoods of Roodepoort.

According to Ward 71 councillor, René Benjamin, there is a group of males going around with a letter from City Power claiming that they are there to repair meters and requesting access to residents’ properties. “I am urging residents to be vigilant and cautious when been approached by “so-called contractors” on behalf of City Power,” René said.

How to distinguish between genuine a City Power request for quotation form (RFQ) and a fictitious RFQ:

Fraudsters send fictitious RFQs using incorrect telephone numbers, and incorrect email addresses to solicit quotations to do business with the city’s residents. Their purchase orders do not bear the signatures of designated City Power officials.

Residents are urged to be vigilant and to verify the authenticity of RFQs by calling any of these numbers – 011 490 7529/ 7074/ 7112 – before accepting any documents, to avoid falling prey to these fraudsters.

City Power will not be held liable or responsible for loss or damage as a result of fraudulent and criminal activities.
