Sale of bulbs shines light on welfare’s bank account

By buying one of these light bulbs that continue to shine long after your power has gone out, you are helping the Muldersdrift Welfare Unit.

The Rechargeable Light Bulb Project was initiated recently, and kicked off at Cradlestone Mall, which kindly donated court space to the project. The purpose of the project is to raise operational funds for the Muldersdrift Child and Family Welfare Unit run by The Bethany House Trust.

The project was spearheaded by local Disaster Management member, Shenan Cochrane, who saw that the rechargeable bulbs would be a great asset to security for residents in Muldersdrift during power failures, as well as serving as an opportunity to raise much-needed funds for the Child and Family Welfare Unit.

Eurolux SA kindly agreed to the project purchasing bulbs from them. These are now being distributed at R69,99 each.

The Eurolux Rechargeable light bulbs are available as BC (Bayonet cap) and ES (Screw cap) and can be used as everyday bulbs in light fittings in- and outside your home/ building (and provide up to 30 000 luminous hours). When power supply is lost due to load shedding, cable theft or lightning storms etc., the bulbs stay on for up to 5 hours before needing recharging. Recharging happens while the bulbs are in normal use with a regular electrical supply. This a great advantage for users, making fumbling in the dark for candles unnecessary.

Volunteers Pricillla Mandishara and Carla Pina assisted with the promotion at Cradlestone Mall during the weekend of 4 and 5 August, and received great support from the community.

The bulbs will now be on sale at various retail outlets such as Foodzone, The 2nd Hand Shop (corner Beyers Naudé Drive and Incolae Road), the Muldersdrift Child and Family Welfare Unit at Christian Ministries and direct from Shenan, Pricilla and Carla.
