Joint market strengthens community bonds

KCVA and Wilro Lions Club join hands

The first ever joint community market was a roaring success, and community members can look forward to many more.

Karin Diederichs, the convener from the Wilro Park Lions’ Club, said, “We partnered with the Kruin Community Voluntary Association (KCVA) to host this fun community day. The aim of this market, from the Lions’ side, was to create awareness and let the community see what we do. Ultimately, we also want to gain more members, and show them what we do with the donations we receive from the public. We also offered free diabetes testing, and out of about 50 tests, we referred five people to see their doctors. We also sold books, plants, coffee, tea and cake.”

Deon van Wyk (KCVA) with local sensation, Priscillia Bokoko.

She added that, for a first time event, it was very successful, and said, “There was a good atmosphere and we received a lot of community support.”

KCVA member, Deon van Wyk, echoed these sentiments, and said that the day also formed part of the KCVA’s heritage group activities. “Our focus is to get the community, across all diversities, together, away from security issues, and just enjoy a relaxing family day. We decided to partner with the Lions’ Club, as they share our sentiments, and all of our stalls were run by local community members, as we wanted to give them an opportunity to showcase their talents, be it art, singing or arts and crafts. This day was intended to unite our community, which ultimately only makes us stronger,” he said.

Ben and Karin Diederichs took some time out for a piece of cake and a cup of coffee.

He added that the community can look forward to many more events like these and confirmed that they already have a lot of exciting plans in the pipeline.
