Organisers announce prize purse for third FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN

The organisers of the race have revealed a whopping total prize purse of R250 000 for the third annual FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN taking place next month.

The third annual FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN will take place on National Heritage Day next month, and the organisers have announced a phenomenal prize purse to intrigue this year’s entrants.

This year’s prize purse has increased by R38 000 on last year’s total prize purse of R212 000, providing an even bigger reward for the runners who will go the extra mile. Prize money has been allocated to the Top 10 finishers in the male and female open categories.

“The winner of the 2018 FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN will take home an impressive R30 000 prize, while the second and third place finishers will take home R17 000 and R13 000 respectively. The Top 3 finishers in the junior, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69 and 70+ categories will each take home R3 000, R2 000 and R1 000 respectively,” said Michael Meyer, Managing Director at Stillwater Sports.

“The FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN has firmly cemented itself as one of Johannesburg’s must do events,” continued Meyer. “In addition to the elite racing element, the FNB Joburg 10K CITYRUN also caters for social runners. Starting in front of FNB Bank City, runners (and walkers) will be transported on a 10km journey through the City of Gold. Look out for Joburg’s iconic landmarks, while enjoying awe-inspiring performance by a host of Joburg’s leading performing arts groups.”

When entering online, runners can choose to support one (or all three) of the event’s charities: the Johannesburg Heritage Foundation, the Johannesburg SPCA, or the Reach For A Dream Foundation.

This year the race will start at 8am from the FNB Bank City, and will finish at the Mary Fitzgerald Square.

The standard entry fee for licensed runners is R170, while it will cost unlicensed runners R190, with entries closing on Monday, 10 September.
