Maragon stumble in first Noordvaal game
Maragon Ruimsig's first hockey team suffered a harsh defeat in their first match at this year's Noordvaal tournament.
Maragon Ruimsig’s 2018 U/18 Noordvaal campaign unfortunately got off to a bit of a rocky start when they suffered a defeat in their first match, despite a strong second-half performance.
This match, against Vereeniging Gimnasium, was undoubtedly not the ideal start for Maragon’s first girls’ hockey team, as they struggled to find their feet in the first half, whereas Vereeniging got off to a blazing start and scored three goals in the first half alone.

After the break however, the Maragon team seemed a much-improved side and spent a large portion of the second period in the opposition half. Their defence stood firm for the majority of the second half as they kept a few waves of attack at bay.
A brick wall can only stand strong for so long however, as Maragon failed to convert the attacking chances they created in the second half and were caught on the counter attack twice, with Vereeniging scoring two more goals to bury the game.

Maragon will undoubtedly be hoping to replicate their strong second-half performance in the search for better results in their second and third games, against Hoërskool Hugenote and Hoërskool Ben Viljoen respectively.
