West Wits Mine documents ready to be viewed

All comments on the BAR should be submitted on or before 20 August

Parties interested in and affected by the West Wits Mine Project in Roodepoort have until 20 August to submit their comments.

On behalf of West Wits, Malan Scholes Consulting appointed Elemental Sustainability (Elemental-S) to undertake the Environmental Authorisation processes that form part of the proposed open cast mining permit for areas that are less than five hectares in extent, namely the Cresswell Park open cast pit and the Kimberley West (adjacent to Sol Plaatjies) open cast pit. Elemental-S has compiled two separate Basic Assessment Reports (BARs) and incorporated all the necessary environmental specialist studies in them.

The purpose of the BAR is to summarise the basic assessment process followed to date, provide an overview of the proposed project and the affected environment, present the assessment of the potential impacts and set out the recommended mitigation measures.

Copies of the BAR have been placed at the Roodepoort Civic Centre at 100 Christiaan de Wet Road; the Witpoortjie Library at 22 Payne Street, Witpoortjie; the Sol Plaatje Hall at 1960 Motlaka Street, Sol Plaatjes, and at the Leases Bowling Club, 1724 Tornado Crescent, Georginia.

All comments on the BAR should be submitted on or before 20 August.
