South Africa worse than war-torn countries
Stats could not be officially verified.
Most South Africans are just too aware of the dire crime situation in the country, but it is doubtful whether they realise the extent of the problem.
The Record dug a little deeper and from various unofficial sources tried to paint a larger picture, albeit darker. We want to emphasise that we could not obtain official statistics from the police because only the Minister of the Police is allowed to release statistics once a year. In addition, many experts fear that these are deeply flawed as they do not contain statistics such as convictions. Herewith the results of our research from various independent sources such as the 12th edition of the Global Peace Index.
