Former City of Johannesburg Finance MMC, Rabelani Dagada, has handed in his resignation letter to the DA’s Federal Executive, stating that the party wanted to end his political career.
Dagada has resigned with immediate effect from both the Democratic Alliance (DA) and its council.
Dagada recently resigned from the party, saying the decision stems from his sacking as MMC when the Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba, allegedly claimed that Dagada had lied by saying that he would be replaced by a white colleague.

This comes after Dagada was fired from his MMC position in January by Mashaba because a forensic investigation allegedly found him in breach of the City’s code of conduct.
He was removed as MMC on 15 January, and shortly after that Mashaba issued a statement alleging corruption, nepotism, price-fixing and the victimisation of some City officials on the part of Dagada.
More than a month later, Dagada fired back in a statement. The former MMC alleged that since July last year, there had been unrelenting efforts by the Mayor to remove him from the Mayoral Committee.
“The DA is not a party that is driven by freedom, fairness and opportunity as they always claim. Since my resignation, I feel free, and I’ll be pursuing other professional and business interests,” Dagada said.
