Curves keeps the less-privileged close to their hearts
Curves Strubens Valley have pledged their ever-helping hand to Baby Moses once again, this time collecting the five items most-needed by the sanctuary.
The initiative undertaken by Curves is targeted at collecting the five items that Baby Moses is in need of most, in the largest quantities possible. Curves put the challenge out to their gym members as well as members of the community, even tempting them by saying that Nickey Seger, the owner of Curves Strubens Valley, will spend one hour on the watt bike for every 15 members working out on the day, as well as for every 10kg of items that are collected.

“Baby Moses is very close to my heart because I feel that their ability to open up their lives to all those children is something that not just anybody would do,” said Nickey. “They have taken these children in, and don’t exactly have any large benefactors – they rely largely on community support.”

This is exactly what Nickey and company aim to do with their collection initiative that will run for the next five to six weeks. “We reached out to Baby Moses and asked them what items they need the most to keep taking care of the children ,” said Nathanie Hislop, manager of Curves Strubens Valley.

Once they were given the list, they broke down the collection to fit into the five weekdays, with donations of specific items requested each day. They will start on Mondays with either long-life milk or milk powder, then Pronutro and Morvite cereals on Tuesdays, before peanut butter and jams on Wednesdays. On Thursdays, they need bleach and Sunlight liquid, while on Fridays they will collect washing power, fabric softener, or toilet paper. Finally, on Saturdays, they will collect R5 coins to provide tuck-shop money for the children.
Curves are not limiting the collection to their members, and are encouraging people from all over the community to do their bit. They have stated that any woman who donates any of the above items until the end of August will receive a free fitness assessment as well as a seven-day free trial at Curves.
If you would like to do your part in assisting Curves with their collection, you can find them at the Strubens Valley Spar shopping centre on the corner of Cascades and Fredenharry Roads.
