Monash will be Trading Live for Mandela this year
It will be the first time that the Trading Live for Nelson Mandela is held in Johannesburg.
In honour of Nelson Mandela, Monash South Africa (MSA) has decided to celebrate Mandela Day this year by joining Rhodes University’s Trading Live for Mandela initiative.
The initiative, in a nutshell, is a skills market that promotes the exchange of skills, talents and knowledge between individuals in communities. Trading Live for Mandela was initiated by Rhodes University to commemorate the legacy of Nelson Mandela as well as to build the community of Grahamstown. It includes a week full of events that enable sharing time, effort and other resources.
With this initiative, MSA aims at working towards changing the world into a better place by inspiring individuals in different Johannesburg-based communities to participate in the Trade Live initiative. The purpose of this is to give and receive 67 minutes of your time by trading skills and sharing talents to build social cohesion in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s fight for social justice for 67 years.
“This is the first time the Trading Live for Mandela initiative is being brought to Gauteng and we are excited and proud to be able to be the first to host this initiative in Johannesburg.
We know this will be a wonderful opportunity for people to give back to members of the community. We want to challenge the public to come and join us and be a part of the day of trading skills with others. Give a little, get a little, and better someone else’s life,” said Professor Alwyn Louw, President of Monash South Africa.
Mandela Day is an international call to action that commemorates the idea that each individual has the power and ability to transform the world by making an impact, big or small. With Trading Live for Mandela taking place in Johannesburg for the first time, MSA urges you to take action and inspire change.
The initiative is due to take place over the course of three days, from Wednesday, 18 July to Friday, 20 July, kicking off at MSA’s campus before moving to Emthonjeni Community Centre (the Hope Centre) in Zandspruit on the 19th, and finally Velocity Community Church in Muldersdrift on the 20th.
