House robber sentenced to 25 years

A Roodepoort Police officer was recently congratulated on his excellent work that led to the successful conviction and sentencing of a house robber.

The accused, Bheki Cornelius Ndumo, 37, was involved in a house robbery in 2015. He and an accomplice held the owners of the house at gunpoint, demanding cash and firearms.

After taking a Samsung television, a rifle, two laptops and an iPhone, they fled in the couple’s red Suzuki hatchback.

Sergeant Mtileni, the investigating officer on the case, traced the suspect who was linked by fingerprints, and went to visit him on 11 January this year.

After introductions were made, the suspect was arrested and detained at the Roodepoort Police Station. Ndumo went on trial and on 15 June he was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment. In terms of section 103 of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000, he was automatically declared unfit to own a firearm.
