Soon we will be living on a rubbish dump

'It is so disheartening!'

I have read the articles in the Record about the A Re Sebetseng campaign and believe that these days are a great initiative.

However, I still feel that people have a ‘don’t care’ attitude towards littering and was wondering how we could create awareness so people will get the message to not just leave their garbage where they have enjoyed a nature spot.

It is a pity we cannot name and shame those that litter, because I believe that would make them feel a sense of shame.

During the weekend I saw people in a white Volkswagen Golf throwing bottles out of the car’s windows. I was walking down the road, and shouted at them from a distance, asking them not to litter. They stopped, picked up the bottles and apologised. They then drove off, only to throw the bottles out the window again, 500m down the road!

I ask with tears in my eyes, “Why could they not take the bottles home and dispose of them there? Or just throw them in a bin somewhere? If this continues we will all live on a rubbish dump one day!”

Why don’t people go enjoy an afternoon on a rubbish dump instead of in beautiful nature? Because this is how I believe we will end up if this behaviour continues.
