Condolences stream in for slain ANC MP Sibusiso Radebe

Police urging community to assist with any information

“The African National Congress (ANC) sends its deepest condolences to comrade Radebe’s wife and entire family,” said Jackson Mthembu, the ANC Chief Whip, in a media statement.

The statement continued, “May they find solace in the knowledge that we painfully share their loss and thank them for having lent the ANC and the country this incomparable servant of our people.”

The 40-year-old Sibusiso Radebe was killed last night (19 June) in what appears to have been a hijacking gone wrong.

In a media statement, Brigadier Mathapelo Peters, the Gauteng Provincial Head of Corporate Communication, confirmed that the police are investigating the matter.

“Preliminary reports indicate that the deceased was with another person in a parked vehicle on Cabot Avenue, Lindhaven. It is alleged that two suspects approached the vehicle and opened fire, fatally wounding the deceased. His companion managed to escape uninjured. The suspects reportedly made off in a dark coloured Ford Fiesta with an unknown registration number. The motive is, at this stage, unknown, and investigations are under way,” she said.

She appealed to members of the public to assist with information that might assist in identifying the suspects by contacting the nearest police station, or calling the Crime Stop number, 08600 10111.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) also extended their condolences after the news of Radebe’s passing was received, and John Steenhuisen the DA Chief Whip, said, “The DA is deeply saddened by the passing of ANC MP Sbusiso Radebe, who tragically passed away yesterday as a result of injuries sustained during an alleged robbery. He will be lovingly remembered by his family, friends and the ANC, as a servant of the people who worked hard to improve the lives of South Africans. We extend our deepest condolences to the ANC caucus as well as his friends, family and community. May his soul rest in peace. Lalani ngenxeba bantu bakwa-Radebe.”

The news caused quite a stir, and social media was buzzing with messages of shock and sadness.
