Fourteen judoka to represent South Africa at championships
'I am expecting good results from my judoka'
The Doryoku Judo Academy (DJA) will be holding thumbs for their fourteen judoka who will be competing at the annual South African Open Judo Tournament.
The tournament will be taking place from 2–7 July at the Madibaz Indoor Centre, Missionvale Campus, Port Elizabeth, and more than 1 000 competitors are expected.

The judoka who were selected to compete, are:
• Klara Vahrmeijer
• Janu Malherbe
• Nico Nel
• Nathan Hamman
• Herman Austin
• Ruben Cordier
• CJ Schutte
• Ivan Olivier
• Tegan Malherbe
• Andrew Hewett
• JP van Staden
• Tazmin Rossouw
• Rudi Rademeyer
• Jacques Rossouw
They will be competing in in kata, individual and various team events. Danie Bruwer, the coach at DJA, said, “I am confident that the selected participants will, as usual, do very well.”
Danie added that, although he is expecting good results from all of his judoka, he is especially excited to see the performance of Jacques and Rudi, who will be competing in the Masters category.

He will also be keeping an eye on Tegan and Andrew, who were the Gauteng Kata champions for 2017 and achieved a third place at the SA Open, as well as Ivan and Ruben who were the Gauteng Open champions for 2017 and achieved a second place in the SA Open.
The individual judokas who are expected to achieved good results, include:
• Tegan Malherbe (SA champion in 2017)
• Ivan Olivier (Currently ranked first in Gauteng in his age group)
• CJ Schutte (Currently ranked first in Gauteng in his age group)
• JP van Staden (Currently ranked first in Gauteng in his age group)
• Janu Malherbe (Twice runner-up in the 2016 and 2017 SA Open. Currently ranked first in Gauteng in his age group)
• Nico Nel (Current SA Champion, hoping to defend his title in this year’s tournament)
• Klara Vahrmeijer (Current SA Schools champion. Currently ranked first in Gauteng in her age group)
