Here’s the broadcast schedule for every African game at this year’s FIFA World Cup™
SABC and SuperSport are once again the official broadcasters of the FIFA World Cup™. Here are all the games that involve African teams and when they're being broadcast.
Many a football fan is wary of the African contingent at this year’s World Cup, but if you’d like to catch every bit of African action at the tournament, then we’ve got what you need to ensure you don’t miss a thing.
If you’re an avid fan of African football, or if your nation hasn’t qualified and you’d like to back a dark horse, supporting the African nations might be a good idea. If you form part of this group, you’d probably like some background information about the five nations’ previous performances at the world’s most-watched sporting event.
So, let’s start in Group A with Egypt. Their team has taken part in two previous FIFA World Cups™ – 1934 and 1990. They failed to progress further than the first stage of both tournaments, and failed to so much as win a game.
On to Group B, where we find Morocco. Their team is taking part in its fifth FIFA World Cup™, having previously played in the 1970, 1986, 1994, and 1998 editions. The team has only ever reached the Round of 16, however, doing so in 1986.
Next we find Nigeria in Group D. This country is the most experienced of the African campaigners this year, having played in five previous World Cups; 1994, 1998, 2002, 2010, and 2014. Despite consistently having strong youth teams who have won their respective versions of the World Cup, Nigeria has also never progressed further than the Round of 16.
The Tunisian team lies in wait for its fifth World Cup in Group G, having previously played in the tournament in 1978, 1998, 2002, and 2006. Despite having played in these previous FIFA World Cups™, the team has never registered a World Cup win.
Finally we have Senegal in Group H. Despite being the African country that has played in the smallest number of FIFA World Cups™, they have gone the farthest of the five nations. They reached the quarterfinals of the 2002 tournament, but were knocked out by Turkey after extra time.
Now that you know what Africa’s all about this year, I can guarantee you won’t want to miss any of the African action at the World Cup. So to ensure you don’t, we’ve put together a broadcast schedule for both SuperSport and the SABC channels for you.
SuperSport will as per usual be covering every game live from Russia across its various channels while SABC will broadcast 44 of the 62 matches live, including all the Round of 16 matches, quarterfinals, semifinal, third and fourth place playoffs and the final.
