Claw desperately needs your help
Please consider Claw as one of your projects for Mandela Day
“Claw is in danger of having to close its doors. If this happens, there is no one to fill the vacuum and assist the thousands of animals in need in the impoverished communities that Claw serves.”
This is according to humanitarian, animal activist and founder of Community Led Animal Welfare (Claw), Cora Bailey, who said that the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s (Ifaw) donations will soon come to an end.
“The cost of medication is ever-increasing, there are two Wendy houses that have to be revarnished, gutters need replacing and we are in desperate need of dog food,” Cora said. “If there is anybody who can assist is, we would be eternally grateful.”
She added that since her right-hand-woman Taryn Welthagen has left the organisation, she is back at the helm. “We also need volunteers on Saturdays and Sundays.”
Claw provides desperately needed veterinary services to dogs and cats, as well as vital animal care education to pet owners in some of the poorest communities. Since its start in 1999, Claw’s team of veterinarians and local volunteers have treated, vaccinated, and provided spaying and neutering services to sterilise thousands of pets.
“But pets suffer from poverty the same way their owners do. Without the means to provide proper care, pets can become vulnerable to disease, malnutrition and abandonment,” Cora explained.
“If someone is planning do to charity work on Mandela Day, please consider Claw as one of your projects. We have many dogs and cats that need forever homes. We also have the Back a Buddy campaign to raise money for the ever-increasing medicine costs.
