Witpoortjie boxer wants to help create more local champions
‘I want to help young sports people grow in their respective fields’
“Witpoortjie has produced numerous champions in different sporting codes, and I want to help create more local sport stars,” said Wynand Thunder Mulder.
The 31-year-old professional boxer wants to open his gym to the public in an attempt to help young sportspeople to grow in their different sports, and said, “I want to help them reach the next level, be it in rugby, netball, tennis, cricket, soccer or boxing. I have years of experience in different training forms, and being a professional athlete myself, I understand what it takes to make it to the next level.”

He added that he is also planning on starting an anti-bullying class on Saturday mornings, where he will teach children self-defence. “Bullying at schools is out of control. I don’t want to teach children how to be violent, but rather how to protect themselves when they are placed in that situation,” said Wynand.
Besides all these plans, he is also preparing for his next title fight, which will be taking place on 10 August at Emperors’ Palace against former Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) fighter, Wade Gorth. The fight will be for the South African Interim title.
“The fight will be a tough one, as my opponent, a former EFC fighter who has turned professional boxer, is yet to taste defeat in the boxing ring,” said Wynand.
He mentioned that, without the support of his sponsors, VJ Auto Clinic and The Brand Shack, he would not be able to continue doing what he loved, and said, “I want to appeal to the companies in Witpoortjie to join my team and help me bring another title home. It is also a great way for them to get exposure for their businesses.”
