Firearm owners with expired licences to hand in firearms immediately or else…

Culprits will definitely face arrest.

In terms of a Constitutional Court judgement on Thursday (7 June) firearm owners whose licences have expired must hand them in immediately or face a hefty fine or imprisonment.

Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo underscored this.

The ruling came in the light of a court battle between the South African Hunters and Game Conservation Association (SAHGCA) and the Minister of Police. SAHGCA questioned the police’s capability to handle the large influx or firearms, but Naidoo said the police will find a way to manage the process.

Gun Free SA has welcomed the ruling.
