Driver injured when bus was stoned
Management has been negotiating with the union to resolve the stand-off.
During the ongoing Metrobus strike, buses have been stoned and windows shattered. In one incident, two bus drivers were injured and the lives of commuters were put at risk.
In a recent media release by Metrobus spokesperson, Goodwill Shivuri, he stated that, Metrobus is experiencing difficulties in transporting commuters to various parts of the city. This is a result of the industrial action strike, led by the Democratic Municipal and Allied Workers Union of South Africa (DEMAWUSA).
According to Shivuri, management has been negotiating with the union to resolve the stand-off, but DMAWUSA is determined that the strike will continue until their demands are met.

While the industrial action is ongoing, South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) and Independent Municipal and Allied Trade Union (IMATU) members continue to render services to the commuters on a small scale, even though there are incidents of intimidation.
Metrobus management is continuing to solicit a lasting solution to the problem to ensure services return to normality as a matter of urgency.
Shivuri concluded by saying, “Metrobus apologises for the inconvenience caused. We advise commuters to make alternative travel arrangements while we are trying to resolve the impasse”.
