Marais case to continue on 18 June

The psychologist was not available.

The sexual predator, Claude Marais, faced another postponement when he appeared before Regional Magistrate Delise Smith in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court last week.

According to State Prosecutor Paseka Temeki, although the psychologist’s report was ready to be heard by the court, the psychologist was not available on that day.

Marais was found guilty on five of the eight charges against him after he had exposed himself to underage girls in Krugersdorp in April 2013.

He was arrested after he had offered a then 17-year-old Hoërskool Bastion learner R200 to perform oral sex on him. He was originally charged with nine offences pertaining to the Sexual Offences Amendment Act 32 of 2007.

A further five charges were added in January 2014, which led him to admit to the court that he had “unusual sexual urges”. Although he pleaded not guilty to the 14 charges and some of the victims had withdrawn their cases, he was found guilty on five of the remaining eight charges.

The case will continue on 18 June.
