Rival boxers’ feud becomes personal

Hurling verbal jabs is something very common in the boxing fraternity, but the feud between two rival boxers has escalated to a personal level.
Boxers Mpho Seforo and Jackson Van Tonder Chauke have more than just thrown jabs at each other, building up to their much-anticipated fight, set for August. The duo’s feud started on Facebook after the undefeated champion, Mpho, challenged Jackson to a fight.

As both boxers promoted the fight on Facebook, the verbal jabs become really serious, creating the impression that there was a real feud.Mpho apparently incited the feud as he commented on every post on Jackson’sFacebook page. In response, Jackson would do the same, to shut down rumours that he is trying to avoid being in the ring with Mpho.
In an interview, Mpho, who claimed to have been preparing for Jackson since January, said the fight was supposed to have happened earlier in the year, but it was postponed, apparently to give Jackson time to prepare for their fight.
“They moved the fight after watching my fights on YouTube. He knew that he had to train harder, because I’m a dangerous boxer,” he said.
Jackson refuted the allegation, saying that Mpho originally refused to sign the contract because the fee was too low.
He added that the fight is now scheduled for 4 August, and said he will make sure Mpho signs on the dotted line after dragging his brand in the dirt on social media. “The fight now is personal, because Mpho’s been attacking my brand,” he said.
The experienced Jackson said he does not take any of his opponents lightly, and plans to retire Mpho from boxing. “He only has nine fights, whereas I have 18, with more than nine knockout victories in my career,” said the Commonwealth Games silver medalist.
