Learner scoops mental calculation competition

Agape Christian School learner Jared Theunis has proved to be a young genius in numbers and mathematics following his recent triumph in a championship.

Jared was crowned champion after competing in the regional A+ Soroban and Mental Arithmetic championships.

The competition, which Jared does as an extramural activity, is a Japanese method of education that teaches children to solve complex arithmetic problems by using a Japanese abacus known as a Soroban.
