Reporting on what happened as details emerged from the scene, BCI Security media liaison officer Gary Jordaan said, “It is alleged that the truck skipped the traffic light and collided with the vehicle as it was turning right go up Christiaan de Wet Road.”

Meiring said ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at 7am to find the one vehicle in the left-hand lane of the busy road. The other two vehicles had come to a stop just a short distance away.
“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found a woman lying trapped inside the vehicle found in the left-hand lane. Assessments showed that the woman was in a critical condition, with her vital signs rapidly diminishing,” he said.
He added that paramedics extricated the woman from the vehicle, treated her and provided her with several advanced life support interventions. “Unfortunately, after some time, the woman finally succumbed to her injuries and was later declared dead. The driver of the truck and the other light motor vehicle fortunately escaped injury,” Meiring explained.
Jordaan confirmed that the road was reopened approximately two hours after the incident.
