Maragon quartet outdoes itself in the pool
Four Maragon Ruimsig swimmers have qualified for numerous galas around the country, including some at national level.
During the course of this year’s swimming season, Joshua Honiball, Blake Godfrey, Tammy Frylinck, and Johan de Jong performed astronomically well in the swimming pool at both regional and national levels.
Tammy and Blake began their stellar seasons as early as March, when they took part in the South African Junior Nationals in Durban.
Both of them qualified for the finals in their respective events, with Blake bagging himself a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke.
Tammy’s performances were enough to book her a spot in the Gauteng team that took part in the South African Schools Championships as well as the South African National Championships.
Johan’s outstanding form came when he took part in the South African Level 2 Regionals in Polokwane in April.
At an event that boasts teams from as far and wide as Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Mozambique, Johan managed to qualify for the finals in his events.
Joshua’s time to shine was at the South African Level 3 Regionals held in Pretoria in April.
It was undoubtedly Joshua’s day in the pool, as he qualified for eight finals, and subsequently won two gold medals – in the 200m individual medley and 50m butterfly.
His efforts were enough to earn him a spot in a regional team alongside Tammy and Blake. This team will take part in an event in Italy later this year.
