Golden Drifters founder takes up new challenge

Shoko has been elected as the new secretary-general of the Mogale City Local Football Association.

Zandspruit success child, Proud Shoko, the founder of Golden Drifter Football Club, is living proof that hard work and dedication pay off.

Shoko has now taken up a new role as the secretary-general of the Mogale City Football Association, one of the biggest South African Football Association (SAFA) affiliated associations, for the period of four years.

Shoko, who founded his successful club at the age of 16, conveyed his gratitude and thanked his family and friends for their ongoing support. “Today, 6 May, is a dream come true. I wish to express my gratitude and thanks to everyone who has supported me throughout my football journey. You’ve seen all my Facebook posts since Day 1, eight years ago, when I started this football development initiative,” he said.

Shoko’s duties will include dealing with administration of the local football association and working hand in hand with the president of the association.

It is no secret that Shoko’s hands will be full, and he will no longer be able to perform club duties. He said, however, that, “Golden Drifters remains my home. I’ve set up a very strong team which will carry on with all the duties for the club to prosper. I remind all the members, especially the executive, to always uphold the constitution of the club as it carries strong values which have brought the club this far.”

When asked about separating club and association duties to avoid a conflict of interest, he said, “I will maintain a very strong professional relationship with the club, as I am its founding president.”
