Seeing the footage of the Land Rover that was hijacked at a Sasol in Ruimsig has prompted me to write in.
On 15 March at about 10.06pm, three men attempted to hijack me outside McDonald’s in Little Falls. I later found out from the Centre’s footage that they were driving a white Polo.
A case was opened at Honeydew Police Station but the investigating officer who has been assigned to investigate it has shown very little commitment to solving it. When I first met with him, he asked me whether I was sure that I wanted to proceed with the case, because there might be a syndicate looking for my type of vehicle and I must just lie low. The question posed irked me! I have made follow-ups with him to find out whether he has been to McDonald’s to get the footage but to this day I have not heard anything from him! The manager at McDonald’s (named Thabang) has not been helpful either. I have tried several times to contact him but he has not come back to me. At least three cameras should have picked up the faces of the hijackers.
Our police do not have the commitment and the skill to sort out these cases. I would not be surprised if this case does not get solved even though there’s footage of this traumatic experience.
When I went to the police station the female officer who opened the file was not even sure what kind of case it should be. I told them that there were also fingerprints on the doors but that information was never used.
Criminals will continue running amok because they know the weaknesses of our policemen.
