Horizon karateka bring home 58 medals
53 students qualify for participation in National Championships
Karatekas from the Horizon Karate Centre participated in the recent SA JKA Gauteng Championships and made their sensei very proud.
The championships, which took place at the Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg, saw more than 2 000 competitors from across the country participating. The karatekas participated in kumite and kata, and bagged a total of 58 medals – 28 gold, 20 silver and 10 bronze. A grand total of 53 students qualified to represent Gauteng in the upcoming SA JKA National Championships.

“I am exceptionally proud of the dojo – everyone’s hard work has paid off. Even though karate is not just about competition, it is always nice to test our skills against karatekas from other provinces, and even other countries,” sensei Wendy Wannenburg said.
She added that during the National Championships, karatekas will be competing for a chance to be part of the national team that will be participating in the African Cup.
