At about 3pm, a Crime Prevention Unit vehicle spotted two men walking along, carrying a gate motor and its bracket. They confronted the two men who told them they got the items from a man named ‘Andries’ at a certain address in Discovery. The police took the suspects to the address but no one was home. They then took them to the Police Station where the two men insisted they call the owner. When the police called, a woman answered, but she said she did not know them.
The two suspects, aged 29 and 31, were then arrested for possession of suspected stolen property. While profiling the two men, the police made an astonishing and irregular discovery. The 29-year-old suspect has about 15 cases against him, including housebreaking and theft, theft out of a motor vehicle, theft, possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, and robbery. He is wanted in four of these cases. The other suspect has about seven cases against him, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of house-breaking implements and theft, and had been found guilty in about five other cases.

This raises an important question – if the men were out on bail for these cases, why were they not imprisoned after committing another crime? And why were they not in jail for the cases they had been found guilty of? Spokesperson Lydia Dikolomelo said she could not explain this but that it was highly irregular.
It is also believed the suspects are part of a syndicate that only steals gate motors.
