Wilro Cycle challenge a huge success
More than 600 cyclists participated
The 19th annual Wilro Cycle challenge saw more than 600 participants line up at the starting point, ready to cycle for a good cause.
The race took place at the Tarlton International Raceway for the ninth consecutive year, and, according to the event’s organisers, it went off without any major incidents.

The race consisted of a 114km as well as a 41km route and was divided into various categories, including Elite men/ women, Junior men/ women, Veterans (30–39), Veterans (40–49), Veterans (50+) and Tandems.The weather on race day was perfect, and participants had an amazing time cycling on the beautiful scenic route, which also ensured they had a lot of stories to share.

– Elite men:

– Veterans (30–39):
1 JC Jooste (02:54:45)

3 Gary Coetsee (02:54:53)
– Veterans (40–49):
1 Jacques Fullard (02:54:27)
2 Jac Louis van Wyk (02:54:48)
3 Hansie Joubert (02:54:49)
– Veterans (50+):

– Tandems:
• George de Gouveia and Paulo da Silva won the mens’ category in a time of 02:57:25
• Clifford and Elsje de Wit won the mixed category in a time of 03:29:56
Dillon Geary (03:08:26) and Zander Mertz (03:38:42) were placed first and second respectively in the 41km U/17 boys’ category.
Rob Stevens, one of the event organisers, thanked all the organisations who helped and supported the event, saying, “Thank you to everyone who made the event possible, and to all of the cyclists who entered the race, and made it possible to give back to the community. The continued support for this event is also appreciated.”
