Arts club bags loads of medals

Arguably the toughest competition in the country, the learners worked extremely hard to obtain their pleasing results.

Just as South Africans were impressed with the number of medals garnered by Team SA at the Commonwealth Games in Australia, so was King’s School West Rand chuffed to produce over 100 medals at a national performing arts competition during the Easter holidays.

Twenty-six of the talented pool of contestants took part in the South African Championships of Performing Arts that were held between 30 March and 8 April.

Arguably the toughest competition in the country, the learners worked extremely hard to obtain their pleasing results. The school clinched 73 gold, 20 silver and 10 bronze medals. Consequently, all the participants were conferred with their Gauteng Provincial colours and 24 of them received National colours for Performing Arts.

of Performing Arts.

Participants Liam Bester and Ontshiametse Zono and drama teacher Mercia Swanepoel were the highlights of the competition as they all won in different categories. Mercia also received the best teacher award 2018 and a fully paid trip to the World Championships of Performing Arts (WACOPA) in Los Angeles in July.

The winners also stand a chance to travel with her to participate at the WACOPA; however, the school is now left with the task of raising the needed funds.
