#HelpFindLee: Additonal charges added during bail application
Case postponed pending further investgation
The accused in the case of the missing three-year-old Liyaqat ‘Lee’ Mentoor will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

He was arrested on charges of child neglect and kidnapping, after Lee went missing from his care on 16 March. He appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on 24 April to apply for bail, but the case was postponed after the State added two additional charges, one of murder and another of defeating the ends of justice to the docket.

The Prosecutor added that they had enough evidence to proceed with the bail application hearing, but the Defence said they would abandon their application for bail, pending further investigation, as one aspect of the investigation, namely the DNA result, needed to be concluded.

The Magistrate, Ruby Matthys, agreed and postponed the case to 3 May.
While in court, the family received a call from La-Rentia Marx, who claims to be a psychic medium, giving them a description of where Lee’s body might be buried. The call followed the insert about Lee that was aired on the SABC 2 current affairs programme, Fokus.

The lead was immediately given to the Roodepoort Police, and the area was thoroughly searched by the K9 Search and Rescue Unit and Forensics Services. Unfortunately, nothing was found.
